Performing Arts Materials on Microfilm: Home

Students of drama, theatre, televison, radio and motion pictures will find the Library catalog adequate for many of their needs, however they may be overlooking the tremendous resources available in the library's collections on microfilm, and microfiche.

Purpose of this Guide

The Boston Public Library has large collections on the performing arts, it is a broad subject with material available throughout the BPL. Much of this material can be found easily through our online and microfiche catalogs, various print resources, periodical indexes, and electronic databases. [The Rare Books & Special Collections, Department, the Arts Department (Music & Fine Arts) will also have items of interest depending upon the focus of one's research. These departments will be closed for renovation until some time in 2021.]

This guide will call attention to some of the performing arts collections available at the BPL on microfilm, microfiche and microprint (collectively known as Microform.) Unfortunately, that does not always mean that there will be catalog records for each item in the collection. This guide attempts to make some of these half-hidden items more visible to the public.
