History of the McKim Building: The Barton Room

A history of the McKim Building at the Boston Public Library with resources about the architects and artists who helped to create the building.

The Barton Room, later renamed the Wiggin Gallery

The entrance to the Albert H. Wiggin Gallery is located at the south end of the Sargent Gallery. In its history this space has displayed special collections, the prints collection Mr. Wiggin, a Boston born New York financier, gave the Library in 1941 and other artistic exhibitions.

This room boasts a central dome with molded plaster ornamentation in leaf and berry patterns, a polished terrazzo floor and the pair of high arched windows that look out on the courtyard.
